Knowledgeable of and follow all Company safety rules, procedures and practices.When directed by supervisor, report to assigned locations for the purposes of receiving training and will actively participate in training activities and report as directed to any facility for any shift needed.Exhibit an adequate competency level pertaining to activities delineated in the accountabilities and qualification sections of this job classification. Demonstrate such competency via performance of job duties and training and testing programs administered at intervals prescribed by LG&E/KU to assure correct classification of employees.Learn to adjust and test single-phase meters in the meter shop.Learn how to safely work with Instrument Transformers.Learn to read meters in connection with work performed.Assist meter inspector, polyphase meter tester or meter installer in the field.Assist in keeping the meter shop clean, organized and the work area safe.Operate company vehicles in a safe and responsible manner and become familiar with the company service area.Learn to install and maintain AMI meters including the communication portion of the meter.Learn how to investigate and resolve meter communication problems with AMI meters.Will, during the normal performance of assigned duties, watch for and promptly report to supervision any damaged or defective equipment or conditions which may cause damage or injury.Keep all equipment, tools, materials and work areas in a clean and orderly condition.Represent the Company to the community with the attention to the highest standard of conduct, appearance and attitude and perform work in a responsible and cooperative manner to facilitate a positive work environment.
Must be able to lift 50 lbs. from the ground to the height of 30 inches and from waist level to chest on a daily basis; Typical equipment/materials that must be lifted includes but is not limited to tools, materials, parts, current and potential transformers; Able to climb up and down stairs and vertical and inclined ladders unassisted on a daily basis; Frequently stoop, bend, push, pull etc.; Must be able to use hand and power tools; Perform hand manipulations extended from your body and near floor level for extended periods of time on a routine basis.
Fluency in reading and speaking Spanish preferred; Must be willing and able to communicate through both verbal and written reports; Use the tools and equipment required in the work; Be able to make and read simple drawings and sketches and demonstrate the ability to carry through work assignments and conduct himself/herself in a manner that encourages cooperation and satisfactory work from others assigned to work with them.
Demonstrate willingness to work inside and outside in varying weather conditions. Exposure to heat, cold, wind, rain, etc., as well as exposure to animals, pets, loud noises and traffic. Frequent driving, climbing, and walking.
Required Education & Experience:
Must be a graduate of a two-year school having majored in electronics or comparable line of study where a working knowledge of arithmetic and simple algebra was acquired (trigonometry is a plus); or a current Meterman certification as issued by the Kentucky Public Service Commission (KPSC) or demonstrated equivalent military experience, training, or education. Have a working knowledge of computers; Demonstrate mechanical aptitude and the ability to learn the operation and construction of electric meters; Must be capable of acquiring a working knowledge in the field of electricity and become proficient in the installation and testing of measurement instruments and devices; Must have a valid state’s driving license and safe driving record; Must be in good health and able to perform the physical requirements of the job, which include heavy manual labor; Must possess the willingness and ability to acquire the necessary knowledge and skill to advance to higher classifications; Must be able to write and print legibly and be successfully recommended by the EEI CAST test. (If not a current Meterman certification holder, must be capable of acquiring knowledge necessary to pass the KPSC exam to acquire certificate); Must be able to speak, understand, read and write English and be able to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions.
