Job Purpose

The COM General Foreman leads a crew to complete daily tasks related to product connection for cable or fiber to be placed for service, ensuring crew safety, keeping track of employee hours, completing daily & weekly safety briefings/inspections, and calls in project utility locations. In addition, this role reads blueprints of projects and is responsible for production. This position oversees the Line team and works with other personnel from other departments.

Essential Functions

  • Obtain all of the necessary licenses, permits, and materials for the job.

  • Oversee, accomplish, and ensure all work quality related to each project and assume full responsibility for its standard and timeliness. Inspect work to ensure job quality and communicate with customers.

  • Coordinate and delegate daily tasks to crew members related to digging and placing product.

  • Gain entry to site buildings for work crew and call in utilities located at each project site.

  • Facilitate daily toolbox talks and weekly safety inspections to ensure the crews work safely.

  • Complete all paperwork in a timely manner.

  • Train new hires and trainees to learn the trade.

  • Track employee hours, turning them in on time.

  • Drive, haul, and/or operate equipment to/from job sites to assist crews in completion of work.

  • Keep the job(s) moving on time, clean up, and perform job restoration at the end of job.

  • Report out weekly on project status to senior management.

  • Perform other duties as required and/or assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. A High School Degree, or equivalent.

  2. 8 years of experience.

  3. 2 years of supervisory experience.

  4. A CDL Class A license.

  5. OHSA 10 Certification

  6. Understanding of gas and/or electricity, including how to safely work around it.

  7. Knowledge of customer’s specifications, being able to read and interpret prints.

  8. Proficiency in all phases of line construction.

  9. Compliance with proper safety standards, procedures, and work practices according to MasTec or the customer, whichever standard is higher.

  10. Ability to talk with customers’ inspectors and have a sense of customer service.

  11. Experience operating heavy equipment and general construction.

  12. Clarity of vision at 20 feet or more or 20 inches or less, with the ability to judge distance and space relationships.

  13. Precise hand-eye coordination.

  14. Ability to identify and distinguish colors.

  15. Ability to work outdoors, even in extreme weather conditions.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Ten or more years of experience, with significant experience in a supervisory role.

  2. Excavator training.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

This job operates in a field environment. This role routinely requires extended periods of bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting, lifting in awkward positions, standing, twisting, reaching above shoulder level, working in confined spaces, working off a pole or in a bucket. Also, working in inclement weather conditions, such as extreme heat, extreme cold, rain, ice, snow, and wind for 10 hour work days, with breaks. During storms this role may work in these conditions from 10 to 15 hours daily, breaks included.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. This position is physically active, with lifting required. Must be able to bend and lift and carry up to 100 pounds.
