Wastewater Treatment Plant Mechanic Specialist

As a Wastewater Treatment Plant Mechanic Specialist , you will be challenged with a rewarding career that supports our Wastewater Treatment Plant(s) by inspecting, maintaining, and repairing pumps, drives, and mechanical equipment for Colorado Springs Utilities. This position is essential to maintain the high-quality equipment used at our Wastewater Treatment facilities. Your expert mechanical knowledge will be utilized to ensure the effective operation and maintenance of the treatment plant.

This position requires the successful candidate to work standby and overtime as needed as well as help in providing 24/7/365 coverage for the plant.

In this job you will be responsible for:

  • Maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing or replacing pumps, motors, valves and pipelines

  • Helping to maintain, calibrate, and operate a variety of equipment used to treat wastewater

  • Maintaining chemical feed and mixing equipment

  • Inspecting, testing, and preparing confined spaces for safe entry

  • Inspecting, testing and certifying a variety of safety equipment

  • Rigging and lifting as needed for maintenance activities

  • Maintaining records and preparing reports

  • Conducting continuous preventative maintenance (PM’s) on plant equipment

  • Determining and adjusting PM sequence intervals to maintain or lower costs and increase efficiencies.

  • Collecting and interpreting data from analytical equipment such as vibration analysis, oil analysis, and thermographs

  • Establishing and maintaining equipment using our work management system

  • Complying with the safety and health program in support of an incident and injury free workplace

What does it take to be successful? The successful candidate will have completed three to five years of progressively responsible mechanical and electrical experience in a commercial or industrial mechanical environment. The ideal candidate will possess this experience in the wastewater treatment or similar industry. A current State of Colorado “D” level Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator certification or the ability and willingness to obtain this certification within two years is preferred. Incumbent must have and maintain a valid Colorado Driver's License upon hire.
