Instructional Design Supervisor

Colorado Springs Utilities is looking for a gifted organizational development leader to join our ATD BEST award-winning Corporate University, University of Springs Utilities.

As the Instructional Design Supervisor, you will oversee a team of highly skilled design consultants responsible for developing learning programs, courses and performance support materials related to technical craft, safety and environmental, customer service, leadership and other functional areas of Colorado Springs Utilities.

In this role you will provide analysis and consultation to employees and management concerning performance challenges within our organization so that we can meet the changing needs of our workforce. You will serve a critical role in providing professional and effective learning and development solutions that positively impact individual and organizational growth objectives.

Your priorities will be to:

  • Inspire your team of instructional designers and facilitate their professional growth

  • Plan, organize and supervise the daily administration of our learning management system (Saba LMS) learning content management systems, and third-party content interfaces

  • Provide leadership and direction on instructional design models, adult learning theories, training needs analysis, training effectiveness metrics, and data analysis

  • Partner with internal stakeholders to ensure course content, learning activities and facilitation solutions meet our current and future workforce development needs

  • Evaluate the effectiveness of USU’s training programs and make recommendations for continuous improvement

  • Nimbly manage the roadmap of projects and initiatives, prioritizing based on business need and impact

  • Participate in visioning sessions with your team of instructional designers and customers in-order-to produce job training programs that deliver impactful content that nurtures highly skilled and competent employees

What will it take to be successful in this position? The successful candidate will bring demonstrated leadership experience, preferably in instructional design, otherwise the broader learning and development space. A bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design, Education, Business Management or a closely related field and over seven years of training and development experience is desired. Synchronous training development, facilitation experience, and CPLP certification are also desirable. We are particularly interested in learning about your abilities in the following:

  • Functional experience with eLearning authoring software is desirable, such as Lectora;

  • Innovation, an eye for detail, and strong communication skills with the self-confidence and willingness to tackle unchartered territory;

  • Possess a thorough understanding of the intricacies of diverse learning styles, and importance of delivering content in a variety of approaches;

  • Ability to be a dynamic and thoughtful leader with a transparent and collaborative leadership style who can inspire others into action and think creatively about solutions;

  • Contribute to a departmental culture which embraces employee development, encourages professional curiosity, and fosters a collaborative working and learning environment;

  • Willingness to invite, receive and promote constructive feedback through a coaching relationship;

  • Proven ability to build and maintain strong relationships with customers and stakeholders throughout the organization and ability to influence using strong negotiation skills and tactful navigation through challenging issues;
