Position Specific Description
In this role, you will support system operations and compliance for the Empire Control Center in Clifton Park, NY. Your role will center around monitoring and operating the transmission system to maintain reliability and meet demand requirements which includes forecasting demands and completing power flow studies.
Responsible for all compliance-related activities associated with Empire Transmission including, but not limited to, NERC Standard Requirements, NYISO Protocols, NYISO Guidelines, and other compliance-related tasks as assigned.
Support related tasks associated with other regions within North America in conjunction with NextEra Energy Transmission as assigned.
Work directly with the NYISO and serve as a backup operator when needed.
NERC Certified System Operator or ability to obtain within 6 months of start date
Electrical Engineering background preferred
Prior transmission control center experience
Employees in this position oversee daily operations taking place within the System Control Center including maintenance and construction. Individuals in this role ensure that the Load Dispatch organization performs at a high level by efficient processing, preparation and executing of switching activities on the system while strictly adhering to all processes and procedures in order to maintain the reliability of the transmission system. This position ensures compliance with all North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) reliability standards.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
Ensures daily operations are scheduled and executed in a safe and reliable manner
Oversees the Load Dispatch group responsible for operating the transmission and substation facilities
Ensures all process and procedures related to switching and work requests are executed flawlessly and per current guidelines
Provides reliable service to customers by coordinating with field operations and trouble-shooting equipment in a sufficiently robust manner
Coordinates with the computer applications team to ensure that the computer applications used in the control center are reliable and accurate
Reviews all phase-in and other work requests submitted by field operations to ensure their compliance with switching and relay protection requirements
Ensures all Control Center Transmission and Substation operations are compliant with all applicable regulatory requirements
Coordinates and directs monthly System Operations safety meetings, including preparation and presentation of related safety and technical topics
Meets attendance and storm duty requirements
Performs other responsibilities as assigned
High School Grad / GED
Bachelor’s or Equivalent Experience
