As a Material Processor Helper you'll have a number of exciting and rewarding opportunities available to you. In this role, responsibilities include:

  • Under close supervision, assists employees of higher classification; under directive supervision, performs manual and routine work in the handling, reclamation and processing of materials and equipment and, as qualfiied, performs shop work requiring minor degree of skill; performs duties such as:

  • Sorting scrap; selecting usable material and which can be reclaimed; dismantling and stripping entrance conduits, meter boxes, street light brackets, transformers and other such line and service assemblies and hardware.

  • Lifting, moving, unloading/receiving and placing materials such as line hardware, crossarms, cable, wire, lamp brackets, casting, mill parts, tools, work supplies, etc. by means of lift-type trucks and tow motors, or with the assistance from employeesin a high classification performs such duties by overhead crane or monorail equipment operated from the floor, and performing routine operations in this connection; driving company motor vehicles, including trucks, as required.

  • Transferring cable and wire from reel to reel and performing simple measuring and cutting operations; recoiling and cutting wire to required lengths; assisting in the reclamation of cable and wire.

  • Repairing items and fixtures of simple construction and such as pallets, racks, bins, shelving, crates and boxes; assembling unites such as splice and dead end assemblies, cutout brackets, lamp brackets and temporary meter units.

  • Performing simple mechanical operations on wood and metal; using power and hand tools and ordinary power shop equipment where templates or layouts are provided, or where close tolerances are not required. Preparing and readying materials and equipment to be worked on; cleaning or preparing surfaces for painting by scraping, sanding, buffing, sandblasting, soaking or washing.

  • Fitting and dipping crossarms.; painting iterms such as lamp brackets, reels and drums, ladders, wood switch boxes, pipe conduit and barricades with brushes, spray guns and dipping tanks.

  • Performing minor maintenance on, or replacing items such as window glass, burned out lamps and tubes; washing and painting walls; cleaning and oiling shop machine tools and equipment; cleaning and sweeping shop floors, cleaning aisles and work spaces of surplus materials and equipment with the use of hand or power tools.

  • Checking, adding water and charging batteries as required for industrial trucks.

  • Keeping the Materials Processing area/facility and equipment in good working condition that promotes a safe and clean working environment.

  • Performing other similar and less skilled work as directed by the company.


Must meet the company's requirements as to General Qualifications and in addition:

  • Candidates must take and pass the EEI Support and Administrative Selection System (SASS) test

  • Must be able to understand instruction and learn simple, routine procedures.

  • Must have practical knowledge of the correct, safe use and care of common mechanic's tools and hand tools.

  • Must understand the function, operations and care of simple machinery and show aptitude for, as well as interest in, mechanical work.

  • Must be able to make calculations in arithmetic involving fractions and decimals; know common weights and measures to take accurate measurments.

  • Must be able to drive passenger car and truck and have the ability to pass company's fork lift training and operation.

  • Must have a valid driver's license as prescribed by the company.

  • Must be able to practice the principles and policies in the company's Accident Prevention Handbook and demonstrate safe work habits in all working conditions and areas.

We administer selection tests for a variety of positions. The required tests have been developed by the Edison Electric Institute (EEI), a trade association of investor-owned electric utility companies. We strongly encourage potential employees to review all information, including the sample test brochures, and to use the available practice tests before taking the actual tests. Practice tests provide sample questions and detailed discussions of the correct answers. It's important to take the practice test as you would the actual one, with similar intensity and concentration. You must have Adobe Acrobat Reader on your computer.
