PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION
ComEd is seeking a creative, strategic, ambitious and detail-focused senior manager of its corporate-relations team. The senior manager is responsible for the development and implementation of ComEd’s community-based programs in northern Illinois, including charitable contributions and sponsorships, volunteerism/employee engagement, and executive involvement in nonprofit boards and civic leadership events.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
Manage charitable contributions/sponsorships for ComEd, including internal coordination among ComEd departments and responding to all requests from nonprofits in a timely manner
Develop and implement key signature programs for ComEd, including competitive grant programs (Green Region, Powering the Arts and Powering Safe Communities), Energy Force, and Switch on Summer, among others
Leads, coaches and develops team members
Oversee activation of sponsorships at major arts & culture partners
Oversee employee engagement, including volunteerism and community-focused programs of Matching Gifts and Dollars for Doers
Provide counsel to the executive team of nonprofit involvement/board placements and work directly with the CEO on civic-leadership events
Oversee administration of ComEd/Exelon skyboxes at major venues and other duties as assigned
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Communications, Political Science/Public Affairs or related field
At least 10 years leading, coaching and developing a team
Strong business acumen and understanding how business goals intersect with successful community-focused programs
Understanding of the nonprofit sector in Chicago and northern Illinois
Knowledge of local governmental and media/communications landscape
Strong relationship-building skills
Shared commitment to ComEd’s values of diversity & inclusion
Continuing education/certification in business, communications, community affairs or an area relevant to the job
Experience working with bargaining-unit employees
Knowledge and/or interest in the energy sector and/or regulated industry
Experience working in or with local nonprofit organizations or government
Well-established connections with leaders in Chicago and northern Illinois
The senior manager embraces the duality of a role that requires an ability to develop creative ideas that support the community and business while ensuring that numerous day-to-day details are met with efficiency and thoughtfulness. The senior manager leads, develops and coaches a small team of three full-time employees (one bargaining-unit) and a part-time intern that are responsible for ComEd’s community-based programs. The person in the role also serves as the liaison with a variety of ComEd teams, including government affairs, communications, social media, environmental, marketing and regulatory. Integral to the role is the ability to develop relationships with a variety of people both inside and outside ComEd, which involves frequent events/get-togethers at night and on the weekend.
