PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION
Monitor and drive progress on the resolution of technical accounting issues by working closely with Business Unit accounting groups to research and document accounting issues and to facilitate progress when needed. Monitor and communicate status of emerging accounting guidance and its potential impact to Exelon. Develop and lead the implementation of Exelon’s accounting policies, including the implementation of new accounting standards. Act as liaison with external auditors to ensure timely sign off of technical accounting matters.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
Be accountable for Exelon’s accounting issues resolution process, including identifying, tracking, researching and documenting technical accounting and presentation matters.
Develop presentation materials for Exelon’s Accounting & Disclosure Governance Committee and Audit Committee meetings.
Monitor and communicate status of emerging accounting guidance and its potential impact to Exelon.
Support the implementation of new accounting pronouncements and determine their impact to Exelon.
Oversee accounting and disclosure knowledge management within Exelon.
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or equivalent and a CPA
At least 8 years of related experience
Strong technical accounting skills and experience in researching, interpreting and applying FASB/GAAP to complex accounting issues
Experience in interpreting and implementing new accounting pronouncements across large organizations
Understands requirements for documentation in work papers, disclosures and memos; demonstrated ability to document a broad range of technical issues
Demonstrated success identifying and implementing best practices within his/her area of responsibility
Demonstrated successful use of technology to improve process efficiency
Demonstrated focus on customer service (examples include working with clients to develop a partnership and encourage open communication)
Effective teambuilding and leaderships skills
Demonstrated project management skills
Commitment to highest standards of quality and integrity
Exudes a high degree of professionalism and treats others with respect
MBA with a concentration in Accounting or Finance
Public accounting experience
Regulatory/utility/FERC reporting or energy industry experience
Experience in complex areas of accounting, including derivatives; mergers and acquisitions; accounting for regulated entities; variable interest entities; defined benefit plans; asset retirement obligations; investments; property accounting; asset impairment modeling; taxation; and contingencies
Proven experience in reviewing contracts and deals
Monitor and drive progress on the resolution of technical accounting issues by working closely with Business Unit accounting groups to research and document accounting issues and to facilitate progress when needed.
Accumulate and track status of significant accounting issues across Exelon, including documentation of their disposition. This includes maintaining and updating the quarterly Issues Matrix on a weekly basis; scheduling and hosting the weekly accounting issues meetings – both internal and with the external auditor; coordinating the review of all accounting memos received; preparing memos for assigned corporate related accounting issues; and overseeing the preparation, review and finalization of the quarterly Issues Memo.
Act as liaison with external auditors to ensure timely sign off of accounting issues.
Prepare and coordinate review of monthly meeting materials for Exelon’s Accounting & Disclosure Governance Committee and quarterly materials for Exelon’s Audit Committee·
Responsible for knowledge management, including preparing and presenting periodic educational programs throughout the company regarding accounting matters, managing AP&R’s document retention program, and supporting the periodic summarization and distribution of FASB/GAAP and SEC activities throughout the Controller group.
Position, at times, may require overtime, weekend work and limited travel.
