Monitor and operate wind turbines, solar sites and associated equipment from our Renewable Control Center located in Charlotte, NC. Job duties include maintaining daily logs of system events, providing immediate verbal notifications of unusual activities to the appropriate personnel, and preparing daily reports as needed. Assist the Control Center Supervisor by overseeing the various wind and solar farm sites power output and condition monitoring of each site. Responsible for maintaining availability levels at each renewable energy site. Under limited supervision, schedules and coordinates the load levels of power plant generation in order to maintain system integrity. Administer interchange contractual obligations, evaluate the pricing of off-system sales and purchases, and may be responsible for granting major circuit and generation capacity outages. Perform a variety of administrative duties, as well as being responsible for EH&S and other relevant compliances. The candidate must maintain effective communication with wind and solar entities, Non-Regulated Dispatch (ERCOT QSE), ISO/RTO, power off takers, and OEM O&M providers
Maintain detailed knowledge of generating units operating characteristics at all times, including availability, energy yield, and performance efficiency, etc. to effectively utilize units to fullest potential.
Utilize excel spreadsheets and Plant Information system (PI) to perform real time analysis evaluations to help maximize unit profitability and performance.
Perform real-time hourly site output updates to power off takers to assist them in their system and market demands.
Respond and execute orders from the ISOs (Pacificorp, First Energy, Tristate, etc) around system reliability.
Operate systems proactively.
Anticipate situations; at times under high stress and in a fast paced environment.
In the event of loss of telemetering, computed data, network communications, EMS, etc., must coordinate or troubleshoot all events to insure performance of duties.
Coordinate activity in the event of an emergency.
Read logs, standing orders, procedures or other information, in order to remain current and informed of normal and abnormal situations.
Must maintain accurate records using Versify logging concerning unit commitment and dispatch activities and generating unit operation.
Candidate must be available to work a 5 person/5 week rotating shift (including nights, weekends and holidays).
Candidate must be available to work overtime on an on-call schedule basis.
Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
Must successfully complete a physical.
Two year college degree or technical school certificate, or 2+ years of related experience or wind industry training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Must be proficient with computers, standard software applications, SCADA, and plant management software.
Must maintain a valid driver’s license.
Must be authorized to work in the United States.
Willing to work overtime and shift work, including holidays and weekends.
Four year bachelors degree
Additional years of generation dispatching experience are strongly preferred and will be given preference over other power industry experience.
Experience with multiple wind turbine and/or solar inverter supplier technology desired.
