Job Summary

The Gas Controller position is located at the Transmission Operations Center in Cayce, South Carolina. This position is responsible for monitoring and regulating gas flow through SCE&G's and PSNC’s gas transmission/distribution systems from take-off stations along the natural gas pipeline (internal and external to PSNC and SCE&G) to customers. Job duties include but are not limited to:

  • Monitoring SCADA (Supervisory Control & Data Acquisition) system to verify natural gas transmission/distribution systems operate in a safe and reliable manner per design specifications.

  • Evaluating changes and issues to the system(s).

  • Administering appropriate and prompt actions to resolve or prevent potential problems, accidents and/or issues.

This is a 24 hour-per-day, 7 day-per-week function, and will require employees to work rotating shifts. The shifts are 8 hours on weekdays and 12 hours on weekends with each employee working 2 out of every 6 weekends.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  • High School diploma accredited by an organization that is recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or one of the entities recognized by the U. S. Dept. of Education or GED AND either:

  • 8-10 years of experience in technical, natural gas or liquids operations, control systems, electronics and instrumentation, and/or in a control room environment (preferred), OR

  • An associates degree and 4-6 years of experience in technical, natural gas or liquids operations, control systems, electronics and instrumentation and/or in a control room environment (preferred), OR

  • Bachelors Degree in a technical or business field.

  • Demonstrated problem solving and decision making skills.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and in a team environment.

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external customers.

  • Effective written communication skills.

  • Proficient in computer software programs (i.e., MS Office) and have the ability to learn additional technologies.

  • Strong organizational and analytical skills with attention to details.

  • Proficient math skills.

  • Capable of understanding natural gas system hydraulics (flows, pressures, pressure points, etc.).

  • Capable of understanding, complying with, and documenting compliance with laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.

Basic Qualifications
