POSITION: Senior Project Manager, Environmental Compliance (full-time)

DEPARTMENT: Permitting Compliance

REPORTS TO: Senior Compliance Manager Permitting LOCATION: California or Remote as needed

The candidate for this position will support project teams and directly oversee environmental and permitting compliance on the construction of PV solar and battery storage renewable assets in the West Region (CAISO, WECC, and related ISOs) of the United States. The candidate should be able to collaborate and communicate effectively in a team environment and exercise project authority over construction teams, consultants, and project team members. The candidate must be able to work independently and be self-driven to accomplish goals and objectives while maintaining oversight of several renewable energy construction projects at a time.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Facilitate conservation land acquisition in fulfillment of permit requirements to mitigate for project impacts in accordance with the California Endangered Species Act and California Department of Fish and Wildlife

  • Develop environmental compliance programs for construction projects encompassing all local, state, and federal permitting requirements.

  • Manage and perform field audits, reporting, and monitoring for construction projects and renewable energy facilities.

  • Review and manage the preparation of technical reports, and filings providing quality assurance and quality control of project documents with a focus on compliance with permit conditions and regulations.

  • Work closely with EPC and contractors to ensure project compliance providing guidance, interpretation, and process requirements

  • Coordinate with local, state, and federal agencies on the project’s behalf

  • Act as a subject matter expert across multiple departments in development and execution teams on project planning, scheduling, and resource management

  • Review and manage cost proposals, invoicing, work plans, and execution strategies

  • Responsible for department budgets, accruals, and accounting controls

  • Manage multiple projects, tasks, and deadlines

  • Develop, present, and distribute training materials and documents related to environmental and permitting compliance

  • Create handoff materials and support a transition from development to construction and construction to O&M

  • Support the stakeholder relations team in interactions related to the public

  • Mentor junior staff members and delegate responsibilities

EXPERIENCE & ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS

  • 7+ years of project management experience with multi-disciplinary environmental and permitting compliance scopes with a deep understanding of cross-functional teams related to developing and constructing renewable assets

  • Deep knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental regulatory agency laws, regulations, and permitting requirements

  • Detailed knowledge of erosion and sediment control and stormwater regulations, compliance strategies, and environmental engineering

  • Experience in environmental auditing and or regulatory audits

  • Advanced knowledge of multimedia compliance including NEPA, USACE, CWA, DEQ/DEP, DOT, SPCC and waste management, water quality, construction, and industrial/municipal stormwater, air quality, T&E species, USFW, and Historical Resources

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university in Engineering, Environmental Science, or related field is preferred

  • Experience in providing leadership to diverse project teams on high-pressure, high-visibility projects.

  • Advanced computer skills with MS Office software, including Word, Excel, and Power PowerPoint as well as geospatial software

POSITION CONDITIONS

  • Adherence to AES safety rules and safety performance expectations

  • This position is performed in both an office and field environment

  • Ability to lift 25lbs

  • Up to 30% of time may be dedicated to traveling and in the field in varying environmental conditions including inclement weather and steep grades

  • Some night and weekend work may be required for this position

  • May periodically require travel and stays outside of CA or home state

The expected salary for this position, at commencement of employment, is between $115.000 and $148.750/Annual; however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements such as annual bonus, in addition to a full range of medical, dental, vision, life, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if a candidate receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
