SUMMARY OF JOB DESCRIPTION
The Accountant is responsible for providing support to NorthWestern Energy's accounting function. The Accountant works daily with financial and operations employees at many company locations. To succeed in this role, the candidate should have an eye for detail, an interest in learning about the business, accounting rules and industry regulation and a desire to take personal responsibility for completing tasks and solving problems. The candidate should also have the ability to interpret and effectively communicate complex financial and accounting data.
The accountant is a member of the accounting department and is involved in entity-wide accounting activities, working as a part of a team to accomplish goals.
DESCRIPTION OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Ensure all actions are consistent with NorthWestern Energy's values, mission, and strategic business objectives
Demonstrate computer skills, with the ability to adapt to ever-changing technology
Consistently take a proactive approach to identifying, analyzing and improving upon existing business processes
Prepare supporting schedules, analysis and reports for monthly closings, audits, financial filings and regulatory filings
Identify and research open reconciling items. Proactively resolve and / or escalate material items
Prepare journal entries and general accounting duties as needed
Work must be well documented
Fulfill operational and management data requests
Communicate with all levels of employees, and serve as a liaison with other business areas to foster great internal customer service in a timely manner
This position is primarily in an office environment with the majority of the time spent sitting
Some travel may be required
Occasional lifting of office materials up to twenty-five (25) pounds is required
Demonstrate and maintain a good safety record
Be organized and able to prioritize multiple work assignments
Possess problem solving skills, be a self-starter and continually adapt to changing technology
Four-year accounting or similar degree and previous accounting experience required. CPA license is a plus
Proven analytical and accuracy skills. Requires attention to detail
Ability to demonstrate flexibility, adaptability, and a positive attitude
Experience with SAP, Power Plant, Excel and Word are preferred
Knowledge of FERC-based accounting is desired
Ability to work effectively in an individual contributor or team environment
