National Grid Senior Analyst, Plant Accounting QA in Brooklyn, New York
*About the Position:*
Finance Operations, Snr. Analyst Plant Accounting QA performs accounting review to ensure accurate and credible accounting transactions and reconciliation. Responsible for reviewing accounting and reconciliation for Plant Accounting by validating accuracy and credibility of financial data. Responsible for reviewing data in PowerPlan and SAP to identify and remediate accounting discrepancies for the production of accurate and credible financial data.
Reports to the Manager, Plant Accounting QA and is accountable for supporting the review of accounting transactions for accuracy and credibility.
Supports the review of accounting and reconciliation to identify discrepancies and produce accurate and credible data.
Reviews accrual activities and performs reconciles plant transactions.
Reviews accounting transactions and identifies manual accruals to ensure allocation to appropriate accounts for accurate and credible data.
Performs balance sheet / income statement QA.
Supports month-end accounting close process by reviewing accounting transactions for accuracy.
Responsible for completing month-end accounting review activities to ensure timely filing and account for any variances in PowerPlan and SAP.
Reviews accounts and calculates financial adjustments and ensure proper account reconciliation.
Responsible for following US GAAP and other accounting standards.
Assembles and reviews supporting documentation to ensure compliance with audits.
Compiles and reviews financial information to ensure accurate financial statements.
Ensures maintenance of financial records for compliance with accepted policies and procedures.
Responsible for supporting financial filings and reporting deadlines.
Responsible for supporting financial and non-financial controls to meet business requirements.
Knowledge and Experience:
Fixed asset accounting
Utility industry accounting
Process centric operations
FERC policy and procedures
US GAAP, Sarbanes-Oxley and IFRS
Month-end close processes
Bachelor’s Degree preferred with a minimum of 3 years’ experience in Accounting roles with increasing responsibility
Experience in Plant accounting or related industry accounting processes
Ability to review accounting transactions for accuracy
Knowledge of general ledger platforms, SAP, PowerPlan and/or other systems experience
Experience working across department and geographic boundaries to lead risk mitigation, the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002 and the COSO Internal Control – Integrated Framework
Background in utility service business activities and projects
Experience reviewing and resolving data discrepancies
Able to assess accounting issues and recommend solutions
Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines
Excellent written / oral communication skills, follow-up, and negotiation skills
Ability to build and develop teams of multi-skilled financial professional
