ENERGY SERVICES WEST

The Staff Geotechnical Engineer Intern is involved in a variety of geo-structural engineering projects with a focus on foundation engineering, emphasizing design-build delivery methods for electrical transmission and distribution projects. The Staff Engineer Intern interfaces with a multi-disciplinary engineering team consisting of civil, structural, geotechnical, and various construction management personnel. This position is responsible for supporting design production including calculations and construction drawings.

What You'll Do

• Execute assignments requiring application of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria to carry out geo-structural engineering tasks

• Perform engineering analyses for design of deep foundations (helical piers, drilled shafts, micropiles, driven piles, and anchors) and retaining structures

• Perform limit equilibrium and finite element stability modeling for soil and rock slopes and retaining structures

• Develop written reports and/or provide verbal communication of information in a professional and appropriate manner under the direct supervision of a Professional Engineer

• Provide engineering support to foundation construction crews

• Perform occasional site visits to project sites located throughout North America

• Work under supervision of Project Engineer, Senior Project Engineer, or Project Manager

What You'll Bring

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering

• Master’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering (preferred)

• Engineer-in-Training (EIT) Fundamentals in Engineering (FE) certification

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

• The ability and willingness to learn new skills and work on a variety of tasks

• Ability to work with moderate supervision and maximum efficiency in a small office setting

• Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook

• Experience with the following computer software is preferred: LPILE, GROUP, FAD, GRL Weap, SHAFT, APILE and SLIDE
