Summary

Spire is searching for an Area Manager, Fleet in our Southeast operations location. This position will be responsible for all capital vehicle purchases, vehicle upfits and fielding, managing garage operations, Department of Transportation compliance, and budgeting for Spire’s Southeast Region (Alabama, Mississippi, Gulf).

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manages, plans, organizes, coordinates and supervises the activities of professional, technical, and clerical Fleet staff to purchase, administer and maintain all vehicles within their area of responsibility

  • Provide general management and direction to subordinates, including delegation and prioritization of work assignments, intermittent instruction and guidance, and review and approval of work produced

  • Prepare, and/or review and approve performance plans and appraisals of all subordinates

  • Manage Capital and O&M budget for region to ensure area is meeting all budgetary objectives

  • Attend regular meetings and report budget status to higher management

  • Ensure Company vehicles are DOT compliant using Federal Guidelines

  • Provide Subject Matter Expertise for area of responsibility in regard to DOT requirements

  • Manage all fuel islands, fuel tanks, and CNG stations in the region

  • Develop emergency management plans to support the ongoing activities during natural disasters and other catastrophic events

  • Oversee the detailed specifications, designs, and plans for all vehicles and equipment consistent with applicable codes and regulations

  • Effectively coordinate with personnel from all involved departments, including other Operations Services teams, Field Operations, Operations Support, Business Development, etc. to ensure the prioritization of fleet assets within the region

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Supervises Fleet Specialists and Garage Supervisors

Required Education (certifications, licenses)

  • Bachelor’s degree in business management or related area of study with 8 years of experience or an associate degree with at least 10 years of experience required

  • Certified Automotive Fleet Manager (CAFM) or Certified Automotive Fleet Specialist (CAFS) a plus

Required knowledge, skill and abilities

  • Five years of relevant experience of increasing responsibility in the preparation in the automotive industry, six or more years a plus

  • Experience in managing large budgets

  • Experience in telematics

  • Experience in vehicle acquisitions and upfitting

  • Experience in leading teams

  • Experience in vendor management and contracts

  • Microsoft Office Suite skills, experience in fleet management software

  • General knowledge of a wide variety of vehicles and equipment

Physical demands, environment and schedule

  • Work is normally performed in a shared office environment Monday thru Friday 7:30a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

  • Travel throughout the region visiting various sites on a regular basis is required
