Alabama Power is searching for a highly innovative, energetic and forward-thinking Application Developer, with extensive experience in PHP 5 , Java, and Objective-C . This is a great opportunity to join a cutting edge digital team at Alabama Power.

Ideal candidate will have working knowledge in developing all layers of an application (services, database, presentation). This individual will be involved in portions of the full systems life cycle (based on experience/skills) and is responsible for designing, coding, testing, implementing, maintaining and supporting application software that is delivered on time and within budget. Handles complex problems independently and demonstrates analytical thinking. Is able to make judgements and recommendations based on the analysis and interpretation of data.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Proven hands-on Software Development experience

  • Demonstrated ability and solid work ethic to perform technical tasks including analysis, design, coding, debugging, and implementation of software applications. Write new programs or create modifications to existing applications as necessary based on project requirements.

  • Makes recommendations towards the development of new code or to reuse of existing code.

  • Recommend new technologies and methodologies to management for meeting business needs, resolving problems and exploiting opportunities. Remains current with new technologies.

  • Participates in software system testing and validation procedures, programming and documentation.

  • Provides technical advice and assists in solving programming problems.

  • Writes and/or reviews system specifications, including output requirements and flow charts.

  • Reviews test results; documents test activities, and records remedial actions.

  • Ensures proper analysis of problems and programming approaches to prevent rework and schedule slippage.

Education

  • Must have a Bachelor’s Degree in either Computer Science or Information System degree

Experience

  • Minimum 3 years with relevant working experience

  • 3 years real world experience developing in PHP 5 , Java, or Objective-C is required.

  • Agile development practices a plus

  • Experience integrating with 3rd party APIs / SDKs

  • Software development experience and ability to effectively troubleshoot system problems are required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Critical thinking skills and knowledge of commonly used concepts within the software development field is required.This includes but is not limited to design patterns, git flow, debugging, MVC application architecture and continuous integration.

  • Must be a self-starter that can problem solve and debug without constant direct guidance.

  • Deep knowledge of standard web languages (i.e. HTML, CSS, JavaScript, AngularJS, XML and server-side languages such as Java or ASP.net) expected.

  • The ability to install, configure, and support Unix based virtual servers is expected.Experience with Ubuntu LTS is preferred.

  • Must be detail-oriented and organized
