Spire's Welding Supervisor position is responsible for leading and maintaining the integrity of the welding team. The Welding Supervisor is also responsible for routing all welders for Construction and Leak and Maintenance crews as well as facilitating the training and certifications needed for the Welding team.
Duties and Responsibilities
Oversee the implementation of plans to ensure the health and safety of all employees in the region
Perform visual inspections of steel butt welds in accordance with federal, state, and company standards
Instruct welders and welding students on the proper standards and welding techniques in accordance with federal, state, and company standards and codes
Administer, verify, and witness welding tests performed by, 1st and 2nd Class Machinists, and 1st and 2nd Class Mechanics.
Qualify 1ST and 2nd class Machinists, and 1st and 2nd class mechanic’s
This entails training, Class B welders for 2- week periods in Spire West in addition to all Class A welders
Maintain qualification of all company welders for compliance with welding standards and codes
Administer welding tests semi-annually in Spire West and South
Develop and weld up boots to fix problems and leaks in the system.
Maintain close contact with welders and main crews to assist them in doing their job more safely and
Review, write, and qualify welding procedures and visual reports
Attend one to two welding seminars annually as they apply to the position and the pipeline industry
Review different welding tasks with all Class A Welders in accordance with state and federal codes,
including required testing every three years
Prepare annual OQ training class and testing
Responsible for ordering and maintaining all cylinders needed for Garage, machine shop, lab, welders, and plants n station at south region.
Train and Administer test within north and south region including Festus, Farmington and Poplar Bluff.
Qualify spire personnel per API 1104 for upcoming welders. Class ”A” Including the class ”A” welders in Festus, Farmington and Popular Bluff.
Administer and qualify contractor welders that are hired by Spire.
Route welders on a daily basis as needed per Maximo.
All other duties as assigned

- Supervise a team of Welders (8-10)
Required Education (certifications, licenses)
High school diploma
Valid Missouri Class E Chauffer’s License or the issuing state’s equivalent
Attend and pass a 24hr haz-mat course and maintain a 8hr refresher course annually.
Required knowledge, skill and abilities
3+ years C & M experience
1+ years teaching welding (preferred)
Setting up third party x-rays and inspections
Experience working as a Class A Welder preferred
Pipeline welding experience preferred
Physical demands, environment and schedule
Works outdoors exposed to all weather conditions, in construction areas with uneven surfaces and in areas exposed to loud audible noises
Some travel to MOW, ALA, Farmington ,Festus, and Poplar Bluff
