Engineering Services is the company’s technical resource, driving leading-class energy solutions for our customers; full-service engineering, planning and technical services in support of our operations, maintenance and capital investments.
The Distribution Operations Engineer works cross functionally with PGE’s operations team, design project managers, and customer care account managers to operate electric power distribution to meet power demands with adequate distribution of electricity. They perform system analyses and provides real-time engineering support to ensure reliable operation of distribution systems.
As a key contributor, the Distribution Operations Engineer provides recommendations for improvements associated with design, construction and maintenance of overhead and underground distribution facilities, standards, operations, materials and new technology. In this role, you’ll have the opportunity to influence new projects and ultimately the future of the electric utility design. We will be filling this role as an entry or associate level and it will be based in Beaverton, Oregon.
Applies engineering education and training in advancing professional knowledge of engineering processes and standards and independently applies knowledge to assignments with occasional guidance on request.
Develops and applies engineering knowledge of distribution design and construction standards of tools, materials, techniques, codes, regulations and company procedures through assignments in support of complex projects.
Contributes engineering analyses to planning and response efforts for system outages; works with line crews to solve routine field problems; reviews outage reports daily for accuracy and develops solutions to mitigate similar future outages for straightforward issues; serves as work order owner to see solutions completed.
Assists staff and senior engineers by completing activities to maintain distribution facilities and providing information and analysis for distribution maintenance and system-hardening programs/projects; serves as work order owner for distribution maintenance projects.
Serves as a liaison to external customers; provides job status updates, requests additional design information, investigates outages and power quality issues, follows up on customer technical questions and provides information to Distribution Planning.
Displays professional and clear communication with internal and external customers and stakeholders, both verbal and written.
Maintains currency in state-of-the-art engineering practices and independently applies professional knowledge of engineering processes and standards to assignments/projects.
Applies engineering theories and concepts to enhance knowledge and contribute to development of distribution design and construction standards and field operations engineering support.
Provides engineering analyses and prioritizes and contributes to system restoration efforts; works with line crews to solve problems found in the field; reviews outage reports daily for accuracy and develops solutions to mitigate similar future outages for a range of issues; serves as work order owner to see solutions get completed; responds to unplanned outages and identifies actions needed to restore the distribution system and service to customers.
Maintains distribution facilities; provides analysis and recommendations for distribution maintenance and system-hardening programs/projects; serves as work order owner for distribution maintenance and feeder getaway projects.
Serves as a liaison to external customers; provides job status updates, requests additional design information, investigates outages and power quality issues, follows up on customer technical issues and provides information to Distribution Planning.
Displays professional and clear communication with customers, both verbal and written.
Education: Requires a bachelor’s degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited engineering program or program accredited by an equivalent agency.
Experience: Entry Level - Typically two or fewer years in engineering. Associate Level - Typically two or more years in engineering.
Entry Level and Associate Level – Completion and passing of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
