Electrical Engineer, Municipal Liaison (Senior or Principal Level)


Engineering Services is the company’s technical resource, driving leading-class energy solutions for our customers; full-service engineering, planning and technical services in support of our operations, maintenance, and capital investments.

The Senior or Principal Electrical Engineer, Municipal Liaison will establish guidelines for PGE standards to meet customer expectations, maintain an expert level of engineering proficiency within field of specialization and serves as a company-wide resource. This position will serve as a company technical and process representative, orchestrating and coordinating all aspects of multi-disciplinary activity, helping drive both municipal and PGE growth. This role will be embedded within a local municipality in the Western Region. It will be filled at either the senior or principal level and will be commensurate with experience.

Responsibilities for the Senior Level:

  • Maintains currency in state-of-the-art engineering practices and discerns need for and provides guidance and direction to colleagues on engineering processes and standards.

  • Provides guidance on distribution standards and equipment specifications to meet customer expectations; provides expertise and oversight in distribution design and code interpretation to resolve complex issues impacting key customers.

  • Leads complex system restoration efforts and consultation efforts with line crews for specific customers, identifying engineering solutions to complex reliability problems; leads the scoping of distribution expansion projects to meet specific customer needs; provides mentoring of less experienced engineers; presents recommendations to senior management.

  • Coordinates cross-functional projects impacting specific customers to ensure alignment of PGE and customer goals.

  • Serves as a liaison to specific customers; coordinates customer and PGE planning efforts, provides job status updates, investigates outages and power quality issues, and follows up on customer technical issues.

  • Understands the holistic impact of a customer relationship and builds trusted relationships, working directly with customer’s senior management and technical staff; communicates complex concepts to customers, including executives; serves a critical role to retain large customers that are highly coveted by PGE competitors.

In addition to the Senior Level the Principal Level is responsible for:

  • Maintains currency in state-of-the-art engineering practices, establishes engineering processes and standards and proactively provides technical guidance/direction to companywide engineers.

  • Establishes guidelines for PGE standards to meet customer expectations; maintains an expert level of engineering proficiency within field of specialization and serves as a companywide resource.

  • Orchestrates all technical aspects of complex projects impacting specific customers; coordinates multiple-discipline activity and establishes work plans to be applied to given projects; presents recommendations to senior management and executives.

  • Is externally recognized as an industry expert. May participate in professional societies by presenting papers or acting as a section lead for a large or complex specialty area.


Senior Level Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited engineering program or program accredited by an equivalent agency.

  • 8 or more years in engineering.

Principal Level Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited engineering program or program accredited by an equivalent agency.

  • 10 or more years in related field
