JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE

Investigates and resolves Liability claims with generally less than $5,000 exposure ('fast-track' claims), while providing administrative support for those handling more complex claims by setting-up claim files, performing data-entry, setting-up payees as 'vendors,' processing claim payments, attaching documents to claims electronically, etc.

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Investigates and either denies or negotiates/settles smaller Liability claims (generally 'Fast track' claims with up to $5,000 exposure) in accordance with best practices and company guidelines.

  • Creates claim files in database, performs data-entry, processes claim payments to vendors and claimants, properly credits money received through Accounts Receivable process.

  • Documents investigation results and all activity in appropriate claims management database. Scans and attaches documents to claims electronically for self and others.

  • Interacts with external vendors regularly. Interacts with internal field employees during claim investigations.

  • Handles specific assignments and projects, such as tracking statistics/results on excel spreadsheets, mailing Safety information to customers, distributing Claims instructional & contact packets of information to internal customers, presenting monthly status reports to management, etc.

  • Participates in Safety training/reporting programs, on process improvement teams, on storm response teams and in acts of volunteerism.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Minimum education required of the position

High School Diploma or equivalent work experience required. Associates degree or beyond desired.

Minimum experience required of the position

3+ years of property & casualty claims experience, litigation paralegal/secretarial work or equivalent experience.

Minimum knowledge, skills and abilities required of the position

  • Ability to investigate, evaluate, resolve, document and report-on high volume of small Liability claims.

  • Understand elements of legal liability.

  • Ability to communicate with all levels throughout an organization, accept criticism, say 'no' in response to claims/demands, prioritize work, operate word/excel/web-based/etc. computer applications, and understand when to bring issues to the attention of others through reporting structures.

Any certificates, licenses, etc. required for the position

Licensed Claims Adjuster (may be secured after period of employment begins). Claims, legal, business, administrative, insurance, etc. certifications a plus.
