Job Summary

There is one position which will be filled at the level commensurate with the successful candidates education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities. This position is located at the Electric Operations Building in Bluffton.

Entry or developmental level position providing engineering, troubleshooting and project management support in designated company area, or specific engineering discipline. Performs engineering calculations, analysis, research and design. Under direction of supervisor or work leader, performs routine assignments designed to develop professional engineering work knowledge, gain familiarity with techniques, approaches, practices and the nature of engineering systems, equipment, etc. and to develop the ability to apply fundamental engineering principles and techniques, procedures and criteria in carrying out sequence of related engineering tasks. Limited exercise of judgment is required on details of work and in making preliminary selections and adaptations of engineering alternatives.

• Military service members and veterans with ranks from E3-E5, W1-W2, or O1-O3, plus appropriate equivalent combination of education and years of experience as outlined below.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

Engineer I

  • 0-2+ years of engineering experience is required; Mechanical or Electrical Engineering - preferred discipline

  • Basic knowledge of engineering concepts, fundamentals and theory;

  • Oral and written communication skills (includes technical writing);

  • Computer skills and application of software programs(Microsoft Office Suites,- Word and Excel);

  • Analytical and abstract thinking skills;

  • Problem solving and decision-making skills;

  • Ability to learn to apply engineering theories and concepts to complex problems;

  • Ability to interpret codes, regulations and practices;

  • Ability to develop effective planning, project and organization skills;

  • Ability to develop project management skills and to handle multiple tasks;

  • Ability to work aftterhours during restoration events and callout;

  • Ability to problem solve using support groups and provided written resources

  • Ability to work within a team environment.

Engineer II

  • 3+ years of relevant engineering experience is required; Mechanical or Electrical Engineering - preferred discipline

  • Knowledge and application of engineering theories and principles, concepts, and fundamentals.

  • Requires developmental experience in a professional engineering position.

  • Competency in applying engineering principles, fundamental concepts, practices and procedures requiring some evaluation, originality and/or ingenuity to achieve project objectives.

  • Understands and can apply knowledge of configuration management.

  • Ability to perform engineering calculations using applicable software programs (e.g. Matlab, Excel, etc.).

  • Planning, organizational and project management skills.

  • Ability to develop and exercise leadership skills.

  • Effective decision-making skills.

  • Effective oral and written communication skills (includes technical writing).

  • Ability to think analytically and solve complex problems.

  • Ability to interpret codes, regulations and practices.

  • Equally effective working independently or in a team environment.

  • Ability to process information quickly and effectively manage multiple tasks.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Engineering

REQUIRED ENGINEERING CRITERIA:

For placement of a candidate in the Engineer job series, the following criteria must be met:

Possess a 4-year engineering degree from an ABET accredited engineering program based on the year that the engineering program was accredited by ABET, or

Possess a 4-year engineering degree from an institution outside of the U.S. which is accredited through the country's own engineering accrediting body under the Washington Accord as a full signatory, and is a degree that was recognized by the country's accrediting body on or after the date that full signatory status was achieved, or

Possess a 4-year engineering degree from a non-ABET accredited program and a postgraduate engineering degree from an institution where the undergraduate degree in the same engineering discipline is ABET accredited based on the year the engineering program was accredited by ABET, or

Possess a 4-year degree in Physics, Chemistry, Math or Engineering Technology and a post-graduate engineering degree from an institution where the undergraduate degree in the same engineering discipline is ABET accredited based on the year the engineering program was accredited by ABET, or

Holds or has previously held a valid U.S. Professional Engineer license.
