Job Summary

Responsible for transmission line design, project management and administrative tasks for major capital projects at Central Maine Power (CMP), New York State Electric and Gas (NYSEG), Rochester Gas and Electric (RG&E), and United Illuminating (UI). Responsibility includes meeting corporate goals for capital investment, managing Construction Work in Progress, and energization of projects. Must manage performance to maximize the effectiveness of capital budget delivery considering the environment, operating efficiency, regulatory, CWIP and operational needs.

The electric delivery system in Maine contains approximately 2,600 miles of transmission lines & 317 substations. The electric delivery system in New York contains approximately 5,600 miles of transmission lines & 621 substations. The electric delivery system in Connecticut contains approximately 130 miles of transmission lines and 28 bulk electric supply substations.

Position reports to the Lines Unit Manager, but the position will work day-to-day in a cross functional project team and support project needs as dictated by the project manager.

Major Roles & Responsibilities

  • Assist Project Managers in capital project management including all phases such as: scoping and budgeting, conceptual, engineering, contract management and design, engineering design, construction and closeout,

  • Conduct accounting and design tasks in SAP software including: creation of WBS numbers, creation of cost centers, entering of requisitions, issuing of PO’s, payment of invoices, creation of compatible unit work orders from engineered designs, and financial closeout of projects,

  • Program and project management skills,

  • Leadership skills,

  • Document control,

  • Participates in project team scheduling and budgetary planning processes,

  • Considers innovative ways to undertake work, promoting automation and efficiencies in day to day work streams,

  • Provides recommendations on policies and goals desired and implements new/revised processes and procedures according to established guidelines,

  • Responsible for the overall management and control of project unit budgets including O&M and Capital,

  • Coordinates with other departments, consultants, attorneys, utilities, regulatory agencies, government agencies, and major customers,

  • Works within the project unit, managing internal and external project resources,

  • Informs management and project teams regarding cost and schedule performance variances and corrective action required,

  • Responsible for ensuring the risk control system is utilized,

  • Continually monitors individual progress to insure meeting of specific deadlines,

  • Attendance in cost and schedule meetings,

  • Works with project managers on the risk definition, cost, and the mitigation action analysis.

Job Requirements

Required Education/Experience

  • Associates’ degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or Business OR at least 8 years relevant project management or engineering experience

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred

Required Skills/Abilities

  • Ability to work in a team to deliver projects on time and under budget,

  • Competent in risk management and mitigation plans,

  • Competent in utilizing MSExcel for data analysis, budgeting and planning and optimizing schedules,

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills,

  • Public presentation skills and ability to summarize concepts utilizing Microsoft PowerPoint,

  • Results oriented,

  • Understanding of quality assurance processes and implementation with project structure,

  • Knowledge of main configuration and general arrangements of networks (substations, overhead lines and cable) infrastructures preferred,

  • Supervision of field personnel and construction contractors preferred,

  • Proven ability to work in a team environment,

  • Team oriented.

  • Ideal candidate will be well competent in the use of MS Office, SAP or equivalent software,

  • Ideal candidate will be knowledgeable in project management principles and concepts in an electric utility setting.


Avangrid employees may be assigned a system emergency role and in the event of a system emergency, may be required to work outside of their regular schedule/job duties.
