JOB SUMMARY
The Distributed Generation (“DG”) Engineer OR Engineering Associate facilitates the interconnection of statewide renewable projects to the GPC distribution system. The position will partner primarily with the DG project management team to administer DG programs and contracts but will have responsibilities for engineering and technical support of other Renewable Development functions. The position is responsible for the engineering, design, construction, scheduling, and testing of GPC equipment used to interconnect DG solar generation facilities, which are owned by third parties and typically under 3 MW in size. The position listed will be filled as either an Engineer OR Engineering Associate depending on the skills, education, and experience of the successful candidate.
JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Serve as a technical point of contact for generators who have the ability export onto the distribution system, including all interconnection activities throughout the engineering and construction process
Review Planning and Reliability studies to assist in designing Interconnection estimates
Produce engineering calculations using software that evaluates fault current, loading, pole height, etc.
Provide assistance during project design and construction for interconnection related issues
Produce a construction estimate using Distribution estimating software and develop a construction print using a mapping software
Work with GPC environmental team to identify issues which could affect the selection of an optimal interconnection solution
Coordinate with the generator to ensure their facilities properly interconnect to the GPC distribution system
Ensure engineering of new projects follows all requirements of GPC Power Delivery standards
In partnership with the DG Project Management team, administer DG program documents and legal contracts as they apply to the interconnection study, construction and operation of generation projects
Assist region Power Delivery personnel in scheduling jobs for construction
Assist with operating devices during Witness Test as needed
Properly record all design, construction, and testing documentation to ensure compliance with DG programs
Job will require attendance at out of town project site meetings (within Georgia) and occasional industry conferences/meetings, etc.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Education & Experience:
Engineer position:
4-yr accredited BS Engineering Degree OR Professional Engineer (PE) Certificate
Previous Distribution Engineering Experience is a plus
Engineering Associate position
4-yr accredited BS/BET Degree in Math, Science or Engineering Technology
Previous Distribution Engineering Experience is a plus
Knowledge,Skills & Abilities:
Strong computer skills including MS Office Suite and Distribution Estimating Software
Knowledge of the Distribution Bulletins, Engineering Handbook/Specifications, Distribution Operating Procedures, ARC Flash Requirements, and Metering Standards, preferred
Ability to prioritize and organize work to manage multiple projects and meet strict deadlines.
Excellent project management skills that lead to desired results.
Ability to work with customers and others as a team member.
Effective oral and written communication skills
Good attitude and ability to provide excellent customer service both internally and externally
Working knowledge of NESC
Must have valid driver’s license
