This position is responsible for coordinating the enterprise-wide risk assessment process as a key member of Southern Company’s Enterprise Risk Management team. The risk assessment process includes the development and communication of corporate and business unit-level risk profiles through engagement with the Chief Financial Officer, other senior management and designees from affiliates, business units, and key functional areas. In addition, this position will support risk oversight and management within the finance organization as well as integration with other risk functions throughout the Company.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Candidate should possess a BS/BA degree

  • Ability to understand and think broadly about both strategic and tactical risks

  • Ability to take ownership and help drive the company-wide risk assessment and risk profile process

  • Excellent communication, presentation, and organizational skills

  • Strong ability to build relationships and consensus across the organization

  • Basic company and energy/utility industry knowledge

  • Broad knowledge of risk assessment and management concepts

  • Demonstrate a creative approach to process improvement, engagement and communications

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work with the subsidiaries and business units to ensure the Southern Company Enterprise Risk Management Framework is consistently interpreted and applied

  • Develop, refine, and implement risk oversight and governance processes and structures to ensure appropriate alignment of resources and strategies with key enterprise risks

  • Coordinate the company-wide risk profile process

  • Active engagement with all operating companies and major functional areas, development and communication of process guidelines and templates, and management of key deliverables and dates

  • Enhance the consolidation of risks across the subsidiaries and business units

  • Support identification of key risk areas for the Company, including emerging risks

  • Ensure risk exposures are appropriately assessed, captured, monitored, and managed; including the identification of commonalities and opportunities for mitigation across various areas

  • Support risk oversight activities of the Southern Company Management Council and Board of Directors through reporting and meeting planning activities

  • Assist in the establishment and coordination of appropriate policies and procedures to mitigate risk

  • Coordinate with Internal Auditing, Corporate Compliance, and other organizations to ensure integration and information sharing for enterprise risk management and audit planning activities

  • Stay current on industry standards and best practices in Enterprise Risk Management
