PPL Corporation Supervisor-Vegetation Management-EU in Allentown, Pennsylvania
Lead a team of six+ PPL management foresters as direct reports and indirectly five+ bargaining unit line clearance inspectors and 300+ vegetation contractors to meet work scope targets and safety requirements within the targeted budget, generally $40M+ annually.
Direct accountability to ensure PPL meets state and federal requirements pertaining to vegetation management compliance standards.
Develop and implement performance standards for the Vegetation Management department. Act as the primary interface with vegetation contractors on key performance indicators to drive ongoing improvement in overall efficiency, reliability, and customer service. Use these indicators to develop new work processes or improve existing work processes that lead to improved efficiencies.
Assesses team resource loads, makes, and manages appropriate individual assignments. Ensure coverage of all areas of expertise necessary to manage the project portfolio within the area of responsibility. Create and maintain staffing plan to support the current and future work demands and project deliverables. Allocates appropriate resources to ensure that projects, enhancements, and support is/are completed within committed time, scope and budget.
Maintains communication with upper management both within and across organizations to ensure smooth running of all projects undertaken by team. Advises leadership about the project portfolio, status, budget, and resource planning for delivering strategic business projects. Establish and nurture positive relationships with any applicable regulatory, municipal, or customer organizations.
Manages portfolio budget. Ensures timely and accurate invoicing and monitors receivables. Accurately forecasts project / program cost to complete. Manages cash flows and final project / program cost, variances, and corrective actions.
Oversight of contractor invoices pertaining to projects/work orders in assigned portfolio, including the verification of compliance with established PPL invoice and accrual processes, and timely resolution of any identified discrepancies.
Has significant experience in Project/Program Management and ability to lead in the coaching and mentoring of team members to help them achieve individual expectations and deliverables. Provide leadership, direction and coaching on project specific tasks as well as individual professional development. Ability to see, account for, and coach others in the "big picture" as well as the details and to be able to tie initiatives to corporate goals. Ability to coach the team to initiate and present the right questions to gain insight into the business issues and needed resolutions. Demonstrates the ability to adapt to and lead, change, and coach others in the acceptance and support of change.
Respond to and proactively manage overall customer service to improve customer satisfaction and public perception results of PPL associated with vegetation management work.
Develop departmental plans including business, production, and organizational priorities in development of forecasting the annual budget and five-year plan.
Represent Vegetation Management department when interfacing with supporting internal groups on legal, environmental, regulatory, and customer service strategies. This includes reviewing plans and proposals of supporting departments to ensure alignment with current vegetation management practices and procedures.
In-person supervision of employees to ensure compliance with FLSA wage and hour issues as well as to monitor compliance with safety rules. May be assigned an Electric Utilities emergency and storm role. This is a special assignment that comes into play during storms and other emergencies when the company needs to restore power or respond to other issues affecting customer service. This role may necessitate the need to work after-hours, outside of your normal schedule.

In the case of remote work, physical presence in the office/on-site may be required to engage in face-to-face interaction and coordination of work among direct reports and co-workers.
The Supervisor – Vegetation Management position is responsible for the management of PPL Electric Utilities (EU) Vegetation Management Program. This includes all activities, for both transmission and distribution, associated with planned maintenance work, capital projects, storm response, customer-initiated requests, and substation spraying. This position has direct oversight of PPL EU forestry trained personnel and contracted physical workforce to achieve successful completion of work scope. Directly accountable for the performance and results of the following: meeting budgetary targets, completing targeted work scope, maximizing reliability and customer service, and ensuring state and federal compliance standards are met. Ensure that PPL EU personnel and contractors adhere to the standards and specifications of PPL EU safety and environmental policies/procedures. Ensure adherence to project / program scope, schedule, and cost, including aggressive management of project / program cash flow. Must have a strong leadership approach and the ability to influence a wide range of subject matter experts to accomplish the overall mission of the organization. Must be goal oriented, action-focused, pragmatic, and self-disciplined. In addition, she/he must excel at project planning, organizing, communication, team motivation and delegation.

Minimum of five years’ experience in positions with project, contract, engineering, construction operations, or vegetation management responsibilities.
Strong supervisory and/or leadership experience.
Proven leadership experience managing large teams.
