Internal Title:

Safety Professional/Sr Safety Professional

Primary Responsibilities:

  1. Support supervisors, foreman, and others to evaluate work practices and determine safe methods. This includes interpreting safety policy, procedures, and rules. Serve as the safety expert to ensure all workers fully understand safety rules, procedures, and regulations.

  2. Participate and/or facilitate safety related working groups to ensure all solutions to issues adhere to Electric Utilities safety rules, procedures, and policies.

  3. Support safety committees through attendance at committee meetings and effectively bridge communications between employees and Safety Operations. Effectively communicate recent safety messages to the field and communicate safety concerns back to Safety Operations.

  4. Facilitate and support incident investigations.

  5. Support business lines in the Corporate Corrective Action Tracker System (CCATS) to ensure all incidents are entered in a timely fashion and with accuracy.

  6. Conduct Field Observations and provide feedback to crews and business lines.

Position Summary:

The primary responsibility of this position is to provide safety support to field and office employees and contractors. This includes evaluating safe work practices, interpreting safety policy, procedures, and rules, supporting safety committees, facilitating incident investigation, conducting safety field observations, and other operational needs as appropriate.

Candidate Qualifications:

Candidates must meet the basic qualifications and pass all required tests or assessments to receive consideration. In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility form upon hire.

Basic Qualifications:

Safety Professional Requirements:

  1. BS degree in Safety Management or related field.

Senior Safety Professional Requirements:

  1. Bachelors degree in Safety Engineering, Occupationsal Safety & Health, Industrial Hygiene or other equivalent technical field.

  2. Minimum 5 years' experience in industrial related work experience in industrial hygiene or safety.

  3. Successful completion of a board safety certification such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) or Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM).

  4. Strong ability to communicate with, mentor and influence all levels of an organization.

  5. Demonstrated ability to work independently with proven decision-making and problem solving skills.

  6. Strong project management skills and the ability to execute large-scale initiatives in a complex, matrixed environment.

  7. A strong customer service orientation and collaborative work style is critical. Team oriented and self-motivated.

  8. Superior oral and written communication skills with demonstrated ability to design and deliver reports.

  9. Superior facilitation and presentation skills.

Safety Professional Preferred Qualifications:

  1. A minimum of 1 year of safety professional experience.

  2. A minimum of 1 year in the utility or construction industry.

  3. Successful completion of a board safety certification such as Certified Utility Safety Professional (CUSP) or Certified Safety professional (CSP).

Senior Safety Professional Preferred Qualifications:

  1. A Master's degree in Safety Engineering, Occupational Safety and Health, Industrial Hygiene, or other equivalent technical field.
