In this job, you’ll be in the Grid Operations division within Southern California Edison’s (SCE) Transmission & Distribution Organizational Unit (T&D). The successful candidate will provide functional leadership and operations engineering expertise on a team responsible for providing engineering support and solutions to Transmission Dispatchers, Outage Request Coordinators and Program Engineers in the Grid Control department. A day in the life - Get ready to think big, work smart and shine bright!

  • Performing technical studies and engineering analyses as well as developing novel engineering solutions and analyses to support real-time operations of the Grid Control Center.

  • Providing advice on technical problems related to planning and operations of the SCE transmission and sub transmission systems, including remedial action schemes, operating nomograms, and system operating limits.

  • Evaluating, developing and implementation of operating procedures that have operational impact to the Company; maintaining the Power System Load Flow databases utilized by the outage request coordinators and operating engineers.

  • Developing load rolling procedures for the sub transmission system in coordination with Distribution Engineering.

  • Representing the Company and providing engineering support at WECC meetings involving external entities. Participating in large specialized technical projects and interfacing with other utilities and CAISO on outage coordination studies, operating procedures, study results and system operating limits; reviewing and evaluating generator interconnection studies to ensure feasibility and operability of system additions for continued reliable operation of the bulk electric system.

  • Developing voltage and/or VAR schedules to be followed by generating plants connected to SCE’s transmission and sub transmission grid.

  • Maintaining a safety conscious work environment by following Edison safety protocols and safe work practices.

  • Performing other responsibilities and duties as assigned.

Qualifications

The essentials

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering

  • Eight or more years experience conducting technical studies or performing power systems analysis.

The preferred

  1. NERC Certified System Operator.

  2. Professional Engineer License.

  3. Familiarity with SCE's System Operating Bulletins and GCC Operating Procedures.

  4. Five years or more of experience in electric system planning or operations.
