Become a SCADA Engineer 3 at Southern California Edison (SCE) and build a better tomorrow. In this job, you will work with the SCE engineering and designing SCE SCADA applications; specifically, the front end processor, data acquisition controllers and end devices used for monitoring and control of the electric grid. You will provide support for the control system applications portfolio. This includes collaborating with PSC SCADA field engineers, TDBU Substation and Distribution Automation and Engineering, as well as the Advanced Technology organization in order to understand the business needs and provide engineering solutions that meets the business requirements. You will also work with other SCE teams to ensure the engineering and design meets the standard as well as adhere to policies and in compliance with NERC and FERC. A day in the life - Get ready to think big, work smart and shine bright!

  • Provide subject matter expertise to the maintenance teams and others at PSC of the control system applications and platforms. Perform the engineering, design, integration, testing and deployment of functionality associated with the supervisory controls, data acquisition and the protocols used interfacing to the end devices. This include IED’s, RTU’s, Phasor Measurement Units, and special protection relays.

  • Perform Tier 2 support on complex technical issues associated with SCADA data collection and controls of the field devices.

  • Working with the business clients to understand their requirements and ongoing strategy in order to provide technical solutions for meeting their short and long-term business goals.

  • Ensuring maintenance and support activities are in compliance with IT processes and adhere to our SLAs.


The essentials

  • 5 years of relevant experience in the field performing SCADA maintenance and engineering functions and providing recommendations.

  • Experience implementing and coordinating system-wide deployments and changes to the SCADA system.

  • Object oriented programming (i.e. Java, C++, C#) experience.

  • Scripting language (i.e. Perl, Python) experience

  • Experience working with NERC and FERC regulations.

The preferred

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in engineering or science of technology.

  • Two years of relevant experience implementing and overseeing system-wide deployments and changes to large scale, mission-critical applications and platforms.

  • Five or more years of experience working with high availability systems. Experience with network communication protocols and equipment, such as TCP\IP and ICCP.

  • Work Mode : Effective January 2022, this position’s work mode is Hybrid . The employee will report to an SCE facility for a set number of days with the option to work remotely on the remaining days. Unless otherwise noted, employees are required to reside in the state of California. Further details of this work mode will be discussed at the interview stage.
