Location:

This position may be assigned to any Consumers Energy Service Center located on the west side of Michigan’s lower peninsula. The selected candidate must be within a commutable distance or wiling to relocate (relocation packages available to those who qualify).

We are looking for: EPM Senior EPC Project Manager

The EPM Senior EPC Project Manager oversees complex projects to ensure they are completed on time and within budget. The incumbent leads the project team, which typically consists of matrixed roles from all stakeholder areas of the organization and contractors. The EPM Senior EPC Project Manager is responsible for planning, implementing, quality control and status reporting and closing on assigned projects.

The Enterprise Project Management Senior Engineering, Procurement, Construction (EPC) Project Manager is responsible for providing leadership, direction and oversight for all assigned projects in Renewables and Electric Transmission & Distribution business segments and manage project risks. Projects may include new construction, major maintenance, system upgrades, and “fix it now” or emergent projects to ensure safe reliable and compliant utility assets and infrastructure. Senior EPC Project Manager will be responsible for managing a portion of the Renewables Energy and Electric Transmission & Distribution portfolio ranging from portfolio to major complexity projects.

This position is directly responsible for the leadership, management and coordination of multiple “matrixed” Project Teams and resources. This role is responsible for all aspects of project from initiation, planning, execution to closeout. This role will develop and manage contracts and contracting strategy, address project issues, develop and implement corrective measures, communicate escalations, resolve internal conflicts with project stakeholders, be accountable for developing, maintaining, and achieving project metrics to ensure predictable results. Manage and report on project and contract constraints of safety, quality, scope, schedule, budget; accountable for meeting project objectives.

Half of the workload will be located at the Ludington Pump Storage (LPS) facility assisting the LPS Overhaul Warranty Project Manager to develop, implement, monitor and control a major long-term contract to correct deficiencies at the site. This role will be critical to the successful planning and execution of the engineering-intensive work -- spanning several years and numerous outages across all six units at our largest generation site. The remaining 50% of the role will be supporting Electric Transmission & Distribution Customer projects on the West side of the State.

  • Bachelor’s degree in applied engineering or relevant field with four (4) or more years of applied engineering or equivalent work experience

  • [OR] Associate’s degree in applied engineering or relevant field with eight (8) or more years of applied engineering or equivalent work experience

  • [OR] High School Diploma with twelve (12) or more years of applied engineering or equivalent work experience

  • Significant project management experience working in accordance with EPM Project Lifecycle Processes (PLP) framework to improve predictability and effectively manage project risk is required

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) within two years of hire is required

In this role, you will :

  • Plan and execute the Project Lifecycle Process (PLP) which includes preparation of plans, schedule planning and other standardized project management deliverables, while meeting the agreed upon scope, cost, schedule and quality objectives

  • Lead the project teams, both internal and external, in the planning, design, execution and commissioning for utility projects/programs, while integrating all applicable regulatory and environmental standards and procedures

  • Develop and manage overall project execution plans and metric tracking including material procurement, milestone payment schedules, cash flow planning, communications, risk analysis and mitigation, resource management, and others as well as manage multiple projects in various stages of the project lifecycle

  • Develop project schedules with Project Scheduling group utilizing the schedule tool to include schedule concepts, constraints, integrate risks and risk mitigations, items in appropriate level of detail, track schedule process.

  • Communicate schedule to project team

  • Serve as the lead in all communication and negotiation with stakeholders including preparing and performing presentations for leadership, external stakeholders and outside agencies

  • Identify and manage risks, issues and constraints impacting project execution

  • Develop contingency plans and mitigation strategies

  • Identify and recommend new processes, techniques and standards that drive performance and process improvement as well as problem solving on existing projects for process improvements

  • Prepare financial forecasts and provide on-going reconciliation of resources and other related project expenditures; while taking steps to ensure projects are completed within budget

  • Provides guidance to less-experienced Project Managers as needed

  • Other non-essential duties as assigned or may be necessary
