Job Summary

The UGE Drill Foreman leads the crew to complete daily tasks related to the construction and maintenance of underground power lines, from plant/station to meter base, auxiliary facilities, and equipment for the distribution of electricity. In addition, they read blueprints of projects and are responsible for production. This position oversees the Line team and works with other personnel from other departments.

Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities

  •   Operates Directional Drill for installation of underground telecommunications cable conduit, including fiber optic cable.

  •   Ensures safety of the public and other utilities underground facilities.

  •   Performs all duties according to prescribed safety procedures and uses appropriate safety equipment.

  •   Setup and cleanup of work site including traffic and pedestrian control.

  •   Reads utility locates and coordinating day lighting of these facilities.

  •   Ensures all applicable permits and locates are complete and on site.

  •   Inspects the work that is in progress to ensure that the workmanship conforms to specifications.

  •   Operates construction equipment to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of machinery to conform to grade specifications.

  •   Level earth to final grade specifications.

  •   Operates vehicles and equipment operations from trucks to other equipment as directed and certified.

  •   Performs proper maintenance by greasing, oiling, and making minor repairs on equipment.

  •   Leads teams in the field effectively and efficiently as needed and directed by supervisor.

  •   Confirm bore path with install foreman and drill operator (including walking the bore path).

  • Perform job site analysis (JSA) including completion of paperwork.

  • Ensure there are proper clearances to install the product per standards.

  • Record the depth of the tool head as required.

  • Ensure the drill head is in a good position at the exit pit to connect the product.

  • Oversee laborers and/or crew member’s work and monitor time usage.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma, or equivalent.

  • OSHA 10 Certification.

  • 3 years of Directional Drill experience.

  • Valid CDL Class A driver’s license or obtain one within 30 days of employment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 4 or more years of experience.

  • Experience with different size Vermeer or Ditch Witch units and various brands of locating equipment.

  • Working experience of underground construction and Fiber builds.

  • City, County and State clearance code knowledge and related.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

This job operates in a field environment. This role routinely requires extended periods of bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting, lifting in awkward positions, standing, and twisting. Also, working in inclement weather conditions, such as extreme heat, extreme cold, rain, ice, snow, and wind.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. This position is physically active, with lifting required. Must be able to bend and lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Clarity of vision at 20 feet or more or 20 inches or less, with the ability to judge distance and space relationships. Precise hand-eye coordination. Ability to identify and distinguish colors.
