_About the Position:_
Reporting to the Head of National Grid Internal Consultancy, the Principal Consultant will play an important leadership role in helping build the Internal Consultancy practice and delivering outstanding, value-added results to business unit and functional leaders. This is an exciting opportunity to shape and be part of a new organization that will have long lasting and material impact on National Grid.
_Position Responsibilties (including but not limited to):_
Your primary accountability will be to drive strategic initiatives across National Grid Plc, working on diverse, challenging and interesting problems. This will involve applying strategic frameworks and concepts to solve complex business problems, leading business performance initiatives, managing the project execution and change management of major business initiatives, and developing and evolving the operating model across our group of companies.
This role has multiple stakeholders, and success will require significant facilitation and coordination skills as well as the intellectual and strategic ability to challenge established thinking and lead discussions where necessary. Your voice and credibility will be important in these debates and your ability to influence and take senior stakeholders with you will be crucial to your success. You will take on a “coaching role,” to share your skills and experience with the team and others beyond the immediate team.
Within the Internal Consultancy you will enjoy exceptional exposure to the most senior leaders in National Grid Plc, working on the highest priority issues. You will become part of a high caliber team, with excellent opportunities to develop your career at National Grid, starting within the Internal Consultancy team and expanding into other functions and/or operating units.
The majority of the work will be executed out of the National Grid US Headquarters in Waltham, MA. Some travel will be required to our operations throughout Massachusetts, Rhode Island and New York, with the occasional trip to the UK. While travel may fluctuate depending on particular assignments, it is estimated to average 15-20% of your overall time.
_Knowledge and Experience Required:_
- Project definition and execution
o Assist with development of consulting proposals, Statements of Work, and Deliverables
o Management of project workstreams and corresponding client/customer teams to successfully deliver on assigned efforts
Exposure and success across multiple areas of business strategy/improvement, such as:
Business unit strategy development (“Where to Play”) and execution (“How to Win”) in large and complex corporate environments
Building out digital/technology strategy ; determining “what to disrupt” and how to avoid being disrupted
Operating model and organization development/designBusiness Performance improvement and benchmarking
End-to-end process improvement
A diverse set of demonstrated capabilities
Complex problem solving and business solution development
Leading and delivering sustainable change
Strong analytic, presentation and communication skills
Comfortable dealing with ambiguity; able to break down problems into actionable tasks, develop work plans and structure work stream output/deliverables
Ability to translate strategy into action and drive real results, not just producing “a study that sits on a shelf”
o Ability to engage with business leaders to drive change
Your strategic ability must be balanced by a strong understanding of the operational and commercial challenges faced by a business, key success factors, and those factors which can derail the successful implementation of a strategy. You will also have experience working with and influencing Senior leaders within an organization coupled with a broad understanding of the energy sector and regulatory issues affecting the industry.
