South Jersey Industries Co-op - Information Technology (Software) in United States

Basic Function: This IT Co-op opportunity for an information technology student to become directly involved in a broad range of technology matters. This position will provide valuable hands-on experience working with project development teams. This includes analyzing requirements, gain understanding of business needs; develop level of effort estimates, gaining an understanding of package software functionality, unit testing, and development of technical documentation.

Essential Functions:

  • Assist project teams by performing business analysis on current processes and make recommendations for process improvements.

  • Assist project teams by developing test plans and performing related testing

  • Work side-by-side with development staff to resolve day-to-day operational issues.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve application problems. Review and analyze the effectiveness and efficiency of existing systems and develop strategies for improving or leveraging these systems.

  • Develop and perform software testing and validation procedures, programming and documentation to ensure requirements have been addressed and basic functionality works and errors are handled properly. Perform system analysis and functional testing as required.

  • Develop an in-depth knowledge of SJI’s application portfolio, development tools, and processes. Actively participate in the development and review of business and system requirements to obtain an understanding of business needs to deliver accurate solutions.

  • Assist and participate in the development, implementation and testing of the Application Portfolio’s Disaster Recovery Plans.

  • Provide estimates of project duration and development level of effort for project planning.

  • Proactively manage activities related to the project to deliver within established estimates.

  • Provide updates to Director and or Project Management on work in progress, completed, planned and issues potentially impacting the one time completion or quality of work

Qualifications:

  • Minimum two years college with concentration in IT or related course of study

  • Looking for someone to start in January for 6 months.

  • Must be able to 40 hours/week

  • Must be able to work in a fast paced environment while handling multiple priorities

  • Must be able to handle sensitive/confidential information in a professional manner

  • Ability to work with limited supervision

  • Good judgment and strong communication skills are required.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

  • Experience with SharePoint a plus
