About the Opportunity

This is an open position with FENOC, a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp. [BVN]

As a Mechanical/Structural Design Engineer at the Beaver Valley Nuclear Power Plant in Shippingport, PA your responsibilities will include:

  • Responsible for developing solutions to mechanical /structural engineering issues in support of plant operation and maintenance (outage and on-line) as assigned.

  • Responsible for preparing calculations, engineering design packages, specifications, technical reports and presentations.

  • Provide input for interface with regulatory and oversight agencies. Interface with and coordinate activities performed by outside engineering/consulting service companies.

  • Assemble and/or review design changes. Prepare new or revise existing design specifications.

  • Responsible for ensuring changes to the design requirements are identified, documented, controlled, evaluated and approved.

  • Preparing technical reports and presentations.

  • Developing and completing investigations and corrective actions in accordance with the Corrective Action Program.

  • Performing field walk-downs and interfacing with other groups to resolve emergent and routine plant issues.

  • Performing audits, observations, surveys and assessments of plant activities such as maintenance and operations.

  • Pursuing opportunities to improve site human performance.

  • Demonstrating a solid commitment to all aspects of safety.

  • Actively seeking formal and informal learning opportunities to better understand technical policies, practices, and procedures.

  • Developing effective working relationships with employees within you own work group, and establishing a professional network.

  • Performing Emergency Response Organization (ERO) duties as assigned.Qualifications at the Nuclear Engineer III level include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering required. Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred.

  • Prior plant engineering experience, including experience with mechanical components, is preferred.

  • Must be able to work independently in leadership and mentoring roles with little Supervisory involvement.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and strong analytical ability.

  • Ability to develop effective working relationships with all employees at FirstEnergy.

  • Able to deliver quality and accurate work within established deadlines.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to make formal technical presentations to various management levels.

  • Ability to work extended hours, shift schedules and perform on-call duties when necessary.

  • Must reside within site-specific ERO response time.

  • Minimum of 3 years professional-level engineering experience in the nuclear industry or 7 years of related professional-level engineering experience in a non-nuclear industry is required.
