This position is part of Southern California Edison’s (SCE) University and Campus Relations Internship Program. The Summer Internship program is a 10-12 week paid opportunity to gain hands-on experience with meaningful work, while developing your skills, and building your network. The internship has an estimated start date of May/June 2018 and an estimated end date of August/September 2018. Summer interns may have the potential to carry on as Year-Round interns, working part-time throughout the school year. Decisions to work as a Year-Round intern will be based upon summer performance, business need, and the interest of the intern.

Examples of what our interns do:
Work together with partners from a variety of teams to support cutting edge projects and initiatives
Analyze, develop, and execute action plans to improve department efficiency and data integrity
Utilize software to evaluate data and provide analysis
Build business acumen by attending meetings and giving presentations
Maintain accurate databases, and provide analysis and evaluation of data
Handling work orders and notifications completed by internal/external partners
Help prepare business documents
Provide scheduling support
Track and update company assets
Perform technical data review and validation
Other duties as assigned
Corporate Finance Organizational Unit:
Corporate Finance provides financial services to Southern California Edison and Edison International. This area provides the information you need to understand our goals, the services we provide, how we are organized, and who to contact with questions. Finance works with its business partners to understand their business requirements and utilizes the functional expertise of its people, its resources and its processes to deliver solutions to meet those requirements. The organization acts as a steward to do what is best for the company, ensuring that SCE meets or exceeds the sustainability, safety and compliance standards set by the corporation.
Opportunities are available in the following areas:
Provides financial and regulatory accounting and reporting services for the Company. These activities include participating in the monthly financial close by recording journal entries and/or preparing financial statements in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), the maintenance of accounting systems, and ensuring compliance with Sarbanes/Oxley internal controls requirements.
Typical duties include:
Participating in the monthly financial close
Recording journal entries
Regulatory and/or audit support work paper preparation
External (SEC & Regulatory) reporting
Work order management
Third party billings
All other duties as assigned
The Financial Analytics team within the Operational Finance department provides financial analysis on behalf of SCE’s operating units (OUs); develops financial models to enable short-term and long-term plans and business cases; leads and/or manages major cross-functional initiatives; and collaborates with finance managers to be a strategic business partner with all OUs. As a member of the Operational Finance team, the successful candidate will work alongside our finance managers in analyzing our business and building financial models to help make fact-based, and/or informed decisions.
Typical duties include:
Budget development, both short-term and long-term
Support preparation of management presentations
Project cost/benefit analysis
Other assigned duties as appropriate
The Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) team within the Treasurer’s Department provides insight-driven financial analyses and forecasts to SCE and EIX leadership for use in strategic decision-making, as well as investor and Board of Directors communications.
Typical duties include:
Analysis of projects/programs relating to capital governance efforts
Valuation analysis or other SCE M&A support
Forecasting of SCE’s financial statements over short- and long-term periods
Ad hoc duties in support of strategic initiatives or other directives from senior leaders
To qualify for this position you must:
Be currently be pursuing a Bachelor's, Master’s, or MBA degree in Accounting, Business, Finance, Economics or closely related field at an accredited institution with a graduation date of December 2018 or later.
Have and maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher
Have experience using MS Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
Have strong oral, and written interpersonal skills
Proven ability to interface effectively and collaborate with peers, clients, management, and other organizations
Proven history of a self-starter, critical thinker, and problem solver
Demonstrated ability to follow Edison safety protocols and safe work practices
Desired skills in any of the following:
Experience with Microsoft Access, SharePoint, or Visio
Demonstrated experience extracting data from operation systems and databases for production analysis purposes.
Demonstrated familiarity with Finance concepts with Excel modeling abilities
Involvement with student clubs and organizations
