Summary All hourly jobs are considered as open for bid on a continuous basis. Responsibilities As an Aircraft Machinist Foreman III, you will: Supervisory Responsibilities: Assign Duties. Plan and schedule daily work assignments to assure maximum utilization of resources and achievement of priority work within guidelines established by the supervisor. Maintain Discipline. Set standards of performance, integrity, and general conduct, and ensure employees' compliance with those standards as well as with administrative rules, regulations and procedures. Enforce Safety Rules. Instruct subordinates in safety rules and safe work practices, including proper use of tools and equipment, safe driving techniques, fire prevention, evacuation procedures, and general housekeeping practices. Assure that work areas are free from safety hazards and that subordinates follow safe work practices as prescribed by regulations, laws, and standard shop practices. Investigate all accidents involving persons under own jurisdiction and complete required accident reports. Review and Inspect Work. Review and/or inspect work of subordinates to assure complete and professional workmanship. Inform supervisor of conditions found and work performed. Responsible for Quality and Quantity of Work Performed. Responsible and accountable for proper maintenance of pertinent equipment and facilities under own control; for quality of work to minimize the danger of equipment damage and failure; and for meeting or exceeding FAA and BPA standards, contacts manufacturers and suppliers regarding Machinistal problems. Requirements Conditions of Employment When you apply you will be asked a series of questions to determine your eligibility for employment and your qualification for this position specifically. You must answer all of these questions completely and truthfully. Possess Federal Aviation Administration Power Plant and Air Frame Ratings for both fixed wing and rotor aircraft and FAA Inspection Authorization Rating. If exposed to health hazards, have periodic physical examinations as prescribed by a competent medical authority, at BPA expense. (Employees will work in close proximity to substances, such as acids, solvents, etc., which may have effects on health unless prescribed handling procedures are followed.) Become familiar with and follow the safety practices of the BPA Accident Prevention Manual. Possess a current, valid First Aid Card and CPR Card. Take CPR and First Aid refresher training as required. Subject to call for emergency work outside normal duty hours and may work for long periods of time during emergency situations. Obtain a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with all endorsements that are required to operate aircraft maintenance equipment from state of residence. Obtain a US Motor Vehicle Operator Authorization within 30 days after appointment. Traffic citations indicating poor driving habits may disqualify applicants. Once CDL is obtained, be subject to random alcohol testing as required by the US Department of Transportation. Operate motor vehicles including 1-1/2 ton pickup, van, sedan or flat bed truck. Successful completion of random drug testing as required by the US Department of Energy. Selectee will be required to complete the Office of Government Ethics Standard of Confidential Financial Disclosure Report (OFGE450e) within 30 days of employment and annually. This position has been designated as requiring a PUBLIC TRUST background. A preliminary background check must be completed before a new employee can begin work. Current Federal employees or other individuals with an existing completed background investigation may not be required to undergo another background check. Conditions of Employment: Position is subject to initial pre-employment Drug Testing and random drug testing thereafter. First time supervisors will be required to serve a 1 year probationary period. This position requires a pre-employment medical exam, at BPA expense, prior to appointment due to the physical requirements of the position. The screen-out element for this position is: ability to perform without more than normal supervision to repair and maintain turbine-powered helicopters and turbine-powered, multi-engine planes. Rebuild and recondition aircraft and helicopter components using special tools. Overhaul, test, and adjust electrical, hydraulic, fuel systems of aircraft, and operate electronic main, tail rotor, and propeller balancing equipment. Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. WORKING CONDITIONS: The Aircraft Machinist Foreman III is subject to the same working conditions as the Aircraft Machinist, including working in the hangar and outdoors in all types of weather. In the event of Machinistal breakdowns, the Foreman III may accompany the Aircraft Machinist to transmission line rights-of-way or small airstrips in isolated locations to oversee work performed on aircraft. Occasionally, the Foreman III may be expected to work with the tools and perform the work of a journeyman on specific projects. The employee may occasionally be required to walk or travel on snowshoes to reach locations of work. The employee may be exposed to dirt, dust, grease, oil, and the possibility of cuts, burns, etc. The work will occasionally include high noise levels or exposure to hazardous substances (i.e.,.acids, solvents, etc.) that could, if precautions are not followed, pose a health risk. Approved respirator and safety equipment shall be worn when hazardous substances are being handled (oil, acid, etc.).
