Control Room Operator

The Control Room Operator’s primary role is to oversee the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the plant equipment from the central control room.

Specific responsibilities of the Control Room Operator include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Assist in the preparation of any type of work permits that may be needed in the plant. Complete and review JSA with the individual responsible for the work permit.

  • Monitor the plant performance and make any necessary changes to the operation of the equipment.

  • Troubleshoot plant issues from within the DCS

  • Manage contractors during plant outages.

  • Maintain Area housekeeping and share in general Plant cleanliness efforts.

  • Maintain a safe work environment. Contribute and report concerns and plant safety deficiencies at meetings. Generate near miss and incident reports for the same items.

  • All Control Room Operators are expected to be familiar and knowledgeable on all equipment and associated systems that are necessary to operate the plant equipment.

  • Be a mentor for his / her team and ensure that the established training programs and requirements are being followed as well as modified as needed.

  • Participate and be knowledgeable in compliance activities as associated with environmental regulations and permits.

  • Assisting Maintenance team / Accounts / Planning / Engineering & Performance Groups.

  • Support the goals outlined in the Shady Point Organizational Charter. Participate in company and team objectives. Be supportive of corporate policies, procedures, and guidelines.

  • Support the Plant on a temporary or emergency basis as required in other qualified fields.

  • Enter work requests into the plant CMMS system.

  • Assist in the training efforts of other operators.

Qualifications Required

  • High school education or equivalent is required.

  • Minimum of 5 years in industrial plant experience or a combination of training and experience. Experience working in a cogeneration or power plant environment is preferred.

  • Has a solid understanding of power plant operations and DCS system.

  • Prefer strong troubleshooting and teamwork skills.

  • Computer literate and competent in the use of MS Word and Excel.

  • Familiar with Root Cause Analysis (RCA), APEX and condition based monitoring techniques.

  • Have experience working with SAP or other computerized maintenance management systems.

  • A strong work ethic, enthusiasm and the desire to do what is right.

  • A desire to be a leading member of a world class Operating Team.

  • Be a self starter, comfortable working with minimal direction.

  • Must pass pre-employment drug tests.

  • US Citizen or Possess an Unrestricted US Work Permit.
