AES Planning Engineer – Transmission in Ohio

AES’s US Transmission and Distribution (T&D) business in Ohio is seeking a motivated Transmission Planning Engineer. The ideal candidate is motivated to help AES Ohio strategically design the transmission system of the future . This Engineer will have a wide range of responsibilities & opportunities spanning both technical and business experiences. Responsibilities

  • Perform studies and develop solutions to connect major Industrial Loads and Renewable Generation (solar, wind, battery storage) to the AES Ohio transmission system.

  • Lead modeling & analysis activities for the AES Ohio transmission system. Utilize industry and internal reliability and performance standards to determine the requirements of the system and develop solutions for continued reliable operation.

  • Champion the evaluation and implementation of advanced solution technology, data analytics and system modeling tools & techniques for the AES Ohio Transmission system.

  • Develop and prepare project documentation (i.e. need statement, potential solution, one-line diagrams, reports etc.) leveraging the results from system analysis to develop the short, mid, and long-term system plans.

  • Meet and coordinate with internal and external customers to discuss short, mid, and long-term system and economic development plans. Represent AES Ohio in Industry committees or working groups.

Responsibilities may vary based on power system planning experience, more experienced candidates may assume additional responsibilities commensurate with their experience.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited college or university required, preferably with an emphasis in power systems.

  • Team player, good analytical and communication skills.

  • Entry Level 0-2 years of transmission planning or similar experience with an understanding of power flow modeling preferred.

  • Mid Level 3-5 years of transmission planning or similar experience

  • Senior Level 5-7+ years of transmission planning or similar experience

  • Willingness to work a Hybrid work schedule (3 days in office/ 2 days remote)

Desired Qualifications:

  • Master of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering preferred.

  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license also preferred.

  • Understanding of electrical engineering concepts such as reliability, load flow, short circuit, voltage regulation, power factor, losses, etc.

  • Experience with power system transmission analysis tools such as PSSE, TARA, EMS, CAPE , or other similar analysis software.
