PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION

Primary purpose of this position is to maintain data integrity of the EU Energy Management System (EMS) databases and displays, and the data that is integrated with the PI-Historian (PI) and the Inter Communications Control Protocol (ICCP) data links as well as maintenance of calculations and ability to write the programming code for them. Position may be required to work extended hours for coverage during storms or other energy delivery emergencies.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Maintain EMS databases (SCADA/FEP), displays, and data links to Pi Historian, Chronus, ICCP (40%)

  • Support capital project work by coding EMS databases, building RTU timing tables, providing calculations for Transmission/Sub-transmission data, build displays/linkages and conduct point-to-point testing between EMS and substation field equipment (30%)

  • Perform EMS communication troubleshooting with outside groups such as IT and UCOMM (10%)

  • Investigate SCADA hardware/software problems with internal BSC IT or external vendors (10%)

  • Support EMS upgrade projects and support external / internal committees as needed (10%)

JOB SCOPE

  • Performs critical function that supports real-time transmission operations by building and maintaining the EMS database including RTU configuration and communications, calculation maintenances, and database querying and scripting.

  • Required to work independently with minimal oversight, and coordinate maintenance activities with transmission control room personnel and peers across EU as it relates to EMS database updates.

  • Required to share lessons learned with peers across EU and suggest innovate process improvement ideas.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor of Science in either Engineering or Computer Science and

  • 4-7 years' experience in database design/maintenance and/or network modeling or associated technical equivalent (e.g. AA certificate in computer science, programming or relational database tools) or in lieu of a degree, 6-9 years' experience with Transmission or Distribution metering and control systems or equivalent combination of formal education/training and experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with EMS software and data maintenance processes and tools used to build databases and displays.

  • Experience with SQL and Linux/Unix commands.
