In this role you will be responsible for: regulated natural gas utility tax workstreams, budget & forecasting for taxes, financial reporting for taxes, income tax compliance, regulatory support, and tax authority

What you will do:

  • Oversees the preparation and reviews the income tax returns for the U.S. corporations and partnerships and ensures that all compliance deadlines are met and that taxes are remitted on a timely basis to avoid penalties.

  • Supports the review and management of the U.S. income tax provision calculation in accordance with ASC740 (including FIN 48) and preparation of tax notes for financial statements. Responsible for documentation required for ASC 740 (including FIN 48) for US entities.

  • Responsible for maintaining the tax fixed asset system, including tax depreciation calculations/reconciliations associated with tax returns, tax provision, regulatory filings, and tax projections.

  • Supports the income tax provision analysis for purposes of effective tax rates, budgets, forecasts, and strategic planning.

  • Responsible for tax computations and tax strategy associated with rate case filings with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and regulatory reporting.

  • Responsible for supporting U.S. tax department SOx documentation and following related SOx internal controls.

Who you are:

  • University graduate of Business Administration or a related subject area. Certified Public Accountant designation.

  • 8 plus years of progressively responsible experience in U.S. tax.

  • Has a strong interest in conducting tax research and applying tax law to projects.

  • Specialized technical knowledge of US regulated utilities is an asset.

  • Ability to work independently and prioritize workload.

  • Strong software skills with MS Excel and MS Word.

  • Effective interpersonal skills.

  • Significant business and financial competence and advanced critical thinking skills are required.

Physical Requirements include but are not limited to:

  • Grasping, kneeling, light – moderate lifting (objects up to 20 pounds), reaching above shoulder, repetitive motion, typing, sitting, standing, visual requirement (able to see screens, detect color coding, read fine print), hearing requirement and the ability to sit at a computer for long periods of time.

  • Ability to: understand, remember and apply oral and/or written instructions or other information, understand complex problems and collaborate/explore alternative solutions, organize thoughts and ideas into understandable terminology, organize and prioritize work schedule on a short-term basis, make decisions which have moderate impact on the immediate work unit and monitor impact outside this area, understand and follow basic instructions and guidelines, complete routine forms, compose letters, outlines, memoranda and basic reports and communicate with individuals via telephone.
