Job Summary

CenterPoint Energy is looking for an Associate Control System EMS Analyst to join our Control Systems Operations Team , located in Houston, TX .

You will have the ability to: maintain system administration and integration for the real-time systems associated with the Transmission Operations Energy Management System (REDE EMS) and associated network infrastructure. Provide expertise in Linux and Microsoft Windows server administration. This includes hardware configuration, operating systems, application software and network infrastructure administration that makes up the EMS. Linux and Windows system administration, security and network infrastructure administration, Cyber Security policy implementation and development, documentation, and implementation of internal and external operational policies and standards.

Essential Functions

  • Interface with operations teams to communicate the status of projects and new implementations

  • Interface with management to identify technology opportunities

  • Identify, recommend, and participate in changes to standard OS templates to stay current with security requirements and approved operating system levels

  • Research, analyze, recommend, and develop methods to increase productivity and reduce downtown if any for the user community

  • Participate in projects and utilize standard project management methodologies

  • Install server hardware, operating systems, and related utilities

  • Install storage hardware and related network infrastructure

  • Adhere to standard configuration for servers and recommends changes as needed for improved server performance or management

  • Identify the need for and assist with the documentation of processes and procedures

  • Assist management as needed with various tasks that enable the overall Control Systems department to function efficiently

  • Keep current with the latest technology trends and innovations to meet the systems' requirements

  • Know the “best practices” when providing a solution to the client

  • Works in a team environment

  • Communicates well with technical and non-technical clients

  • Manages and monitors computer systems and appliances that support transmission real-time operations and distribution control at the Energy Control Center (ECC) and Addicks Operations Center (AOC).

  • System Administration for LINUX and Windows servers in a real-time environment.

Education Description

  • Requires a Bachelor degree in Computer Engineering, Engineering, Computer Science, IT or equivalent field from an accredited college or university. Extensive experience in cyber security or CIP compliance regulations (four years at minimum) with professional training certificates in cyber security or network security may be considered in lieu of degree.

Experience

  • Any experience in some combination of following fields: Audit and Compliance Management, Cyber security, Information Technology consulting, LINUX system administration, Windows system administration, Network security administration and configuration, application development background.
