Job Summary

Please Note: This Environmental Compliance internship is designed for the student looking to work in the field and receive hands on Environmental Compliance experience. Dominion is specifically looking for a student with an anticipated graduation date of December 2019 or later. You must have an independent source of transportation for this summer 2018 internship. The intern would gain experience in a variety of areas related to environmental compliance including industrial and construction stormwater, Industrial water discharge permit, oil discharge control plans, waste disposal, wildlife management, and air permit compliance. The intern would work closely with the environmental compliance coordinators on day to day environmental tasks and activities. Responsibilities include:

  • Site inspections to include but not limited to dam inspections, chemical and oil tank inspections, visible emissions inspections, storm water inspections, etc.

  • Compliance Plan evaluations

  • Analytical data collection and review for compliance reporting

  • Chemical management

  • Updating Operations and Maintenance manual for the VPDES program

  • Storm water sampling

  • Conduct self-assessments of the environmental programs

  • Creating process flow diagrams

Work Location: Dominion's Chesterfield Power Station is the largest fossil-fueled power station in Virginia. Located about 15 miles south of Richmond on the James River, the station can generate more than 1,600 megawatts.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

  • Must have at least a 3.0 GPA

  • Must have an anticipated graduation date of December 2019 or later

  • Laboratory experience with sampling techniques and some analyzers which may include: pH meter, conductivity meter, dissolved oxygen meter is preferred

  • Must have a valid driver's license

  • Pursuing a Bachelor's degree, Master's degree or a minor in Environmental Science, Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Engineering or related field.

  • Knowledge of environmental regulations

  • Intermediate computer skills (excel, pdf write, power point)

  • Analytical and deductive reasoning skills

  • Technical written skills

Education Requirements

  • Must have at least a 3.0 GPA

  • Must be pursuing a Bachelor's degree, Master's degree or a minor in Environmental Science, Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Engineering or related field

  • Must have an anticipated graduation date of December 2019 or later
