Overview

Decisions are guided by Resource availability and functional objectives. Accountable for the safe operations and performance of the electric distribution system during both normal and emergency conditions on a 24 X 7 basis.

Provides leadership to Managers in the area of System Operations and Dispatch. Key interface to 911 emergency centers and outside organizations for distribution related emergencies and operations of the system within appropriate guidelines and regulations.

Responsibilities

  1. Directs system operations, dispatch and field resources to carry out the day to day operations of the distribution system during normal and emergency conditions.

  2. Leads a group of highly trained professionals and bargaining unit personnel to ensure their safety and the safety of the public, improve Customer Average Interruption Duration Index (CAIDI) that exceed targets set by PPUC and PPL, develop and manage system availability targets, and identify and implements industry best practices.

  3. Partners with Field resources, Power dispatchers, Engineering and electrical test, PJM, Public 911 emergency to provide the safe, reliable and economic electric delivery service.

  4. Manages the tracking of power system reliability, identify areas for improvement and lead teams to implement changes.

  5. Process owner and manages the protective Permit & Tag system (OI 153). Ensure that the process is in compliance with OSHA and PPL safety standards. Responsible for proper Permit & Tag training of Distribution staff, PPLEU electrical field workers, and PPL contractors. .

  6. Supports Distribution Operations and Engineering by ensuring facility outages are properly planned and scheduled to ensure adequate reliability and maintaining proper contingency plans. Keep all appropriate internal and external organizations informed of upcoming outages and schedule modifications.

  7. Set strategic direction for two regional distribution and one dispatch centers having responsibility for 24/7 control and operation of the PPLEU electrical distribution system. Maintain standards of operation within the operating principles and practices of PJM/MAAC and PPLEU. Responsible for correct and safe direction of switching and emergency restoration activities of field crews.

  8. Develops departmental plans including business, production and/or organizational priorities. Responsible for creating and maintaining a safe work environment and organizational culture which encourages employee innovation, collaboration, commitment and is consistent with PPLEU values.

Qualifications

  1. Bachelor's Degree or eight years of equivalent experience

  2. Minimum five years experience in construction, design or operation of electrical systems.

  3. Five years of management and supervisory experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Master's Degree

  2. Professional Engineer License is preferred but not required.

  3. Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  4. Ability to work well with individuals on all levels of the organization.

Remote Work
